THEME INSPIRATION

Inspired by The Tokyo Toilet Project, this competition invites participants to reimagine public toilets as meaningful public architecture — inclusive, sustainable, and beautifully integrated into the environment.

Set along Singapore’s Park Connector Network, these toilets should go beyond basic function to reflect our values of community care, accessibility, and nature integration. Just like Tokyo's initiative transformed overlooked urban infrastructure into celebrated design icons, this contest calls for bold, thoughtful concepts that serve both people and place — helping shape a more humane and inspiring urban experience.

THE BRIEF

Singapore’s Park Connector Network (PCN) is a vital part of the nation's green infrastructure — connecting neighborhoods, parks, and natural reserves across the island. As usage of these connectors increases for recreation, commuting, and wellness, the need for well-designed public amenities - especially public toilets - becomes more critical.

Participants are invited to propose a conceptual design for a public toilet to be integrated along the Park Connector Network. The proposal should go beyond basic utility to create a thoughtful, inclusive, and inspiring space that reflects Singapore’s values and urban vision. Your design should explore :

Community Needs

Design a toilet that serves diverse users with dignity, safety, and inclusivity in mind.

Accessibility

Ensure universal access with features that go beyond minimum standards to embrace all users.

Integration with Nature

Create a design that harmonizes with the green landscape and enhances the park connector experience.

Urban Sustainability

Propose a future-ready solution with environmentally responsible and easily maintainable systems.
